Apple defended macOS Sierra and El Capitan from Meltdown

Apple continues to deal with the vulnerability of Meltdown in processors, releasing updates for earlier versions of macOS.

What's fixed

For Apple computers with Sierra and El Capitan on board, Security Update 2018-001 is available . Patches should close the main security holes. In particular, they fixed the possibility of running arbitrary code using the IOHIDFamily API vulnerability. The update also prevents hacking through the launch of malicious audio files.

The company is also developing updates for Safari and WebKit to prevent hacking through the Specter. At the same time, we do not know whether Apple will update the A-series processors.

Previously, Apple repaired the vulnerability of ChaiOS for iOS. Unfair users could send SMS with a link that "froze" the entire phone. The bug has been fixed in version 11.2.5, which is already available for iPhone owners in the update menu.
