The hacker from Ukraine hacked the latest version of the PS4 firmware

Ukrainian hacker Vladimir Pihur hacked the protection of the current versions of the firmware PlayStation 4 - 5.00 and 5.05.

What is known

The guy lives in the US and is engaged in hacking PS4 for a long time. This vulnerability he discovered a couple of years ago, and all this time he studied the possibilities for hacking. The first news about the hack was heard back in January, but it worked only on firmware not higher than 4.05.

How it works

This option uses the console vulnerability in sleep mode. According to the hacker, the processor of the south bridge remains active and is responsible for downloading in the background. At the same time, the main SoC "sleeps" and does not protect the PS4. So, Pihur downloaded the necessary files using an FTP server. The hacker noted that in the iteration of 5.05 Sony replaced the access keys, but not the connection, which leaves a loophole for hacking the console.
