Hackers use thousands of Android-devices for crypto currency mining

Wicked miners have already learned how to deceive PC users and secretly extract crypto-currency through websites. For example, last year, this was a Ukrainian resource football.ua. Now in the western segment of the Internet there are websites that cancode crypto currency through Android-smartphones.

What is known

The manufacturer of security software Malwarebytes noticed that some web resources redirect users to a third-party site with a CAPTCHA. The page "tells" the user that the smartphone is seen in suspicious activity and asks to pass a check on the person. The report also says that the smartphone will "mine" Monero while the visitor is on the page.

The exact number of users who are caught in this trick is unknown. Malwarebytes counted five popular sites that use this scheme. Among them is a resource with a monthly audience of 30 million people, which is visited by 800 thousand users a day.

The manufacturer of security software recommends users to install web filters and antivirus to avoid such fraud. It is also recommended to refrain from downloading applications from unverified sources, and use Google Play.
