The end is nearing: Nintendo shuts down another online feature on 3DS and Wii U

Earlier this week, Nintendo announced the closure of another feature of its consoles, namely the ability to use Facebook and Twitter.

Here's What We Know

For most of the year, the Japanese giant has been working on closing services for the Wii U and 3DS consoles to focus on supporting the current Nintendo Switch. Last month, the company revealed that it was starting to shut down the online features of the consoles for users around the world. As part of that process, it banned logging into Nintendo accounts on 3DS or Wii U using Facebook or Twitter. It is not yet clear whether Apple and Google will suffer the same fate, but currently the console can be logged in through their accounts.

The next step will be to shut down the digital eShop worldwide - this is planned to be done on March 27, 2023.

Recall that Nintendo 3Ds was released in 2011, and Wii U in 2017. Despite its respectable age for a portable console, the 3DS will stop working along with the newer Wii U.
