Sweden considers transferring Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

Ukraine has officially submitted a request to Sweden for supplies of Gripen fighter jets.

Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson told journalists from Eurointegration. Sweden is considering such a possibility, but it is not known whether the deliveries will be approved yet. The fact is that the fighters are important for the country's national defence. According to the latest data, Sweden now operates about 100 planes Gripen of various modifications.

Incidentally, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has transferred arms worth about 1 billion euros to the AFU. In the near future, the Ukrainian military will receive Swedish Archer anti-tank gun and CV90 infantry fighting vehicle.

Flashback

The Gripen is a Swedish fourth-generation multirole fighter designed and manufactured by Saab. Work on the aircraft began in 1979, and it made its maiden flight in 1988. Since the start of mass production 247 Gripen have been produced. The main operators of the fighter are air forces of Sweden, the Czech Republic, Hungary and South Africa.
