Rumours: the writers of the upcoming Star Wars film left the project back in February, but Lucasfilm has found a replacement

Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, the writers of the upcoming Star Wars film, have left the project, Above the Line reports.

Here's What We Know

Damon and Justin handed over the rough draft of the script in mid-February and left the studio a few days later. However, Lucasfilm has already found a new screenwriter, but it is not known who they have chosen.

Recently, Lindelof questioned his involvement in the Star Wars universe in an interview with SlashFilm at SXSW, where he said that the film's level of complexity is very high. If it can't be great, it shouldn't exist.

For Lindelof, Star Wars means too much - it was the first film he saw sitting on his father's lap when he was four years old in May '77.

The screenwriter also added: "Sometimes, when you have so much reverence and respect for something, you start to go into the kitchen and think: "Maybe I shouldn't cook?". Maybe I should just eat. We'll just leave it at that."

Interestingly, the film's director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will continue to create the film and is not going to leave Lucasfilm.

Details of the plot of the upcoming film remain secret, but the top-secret project will be presented in April along with its title and a short synopsis.

When We Can Expect It

The film is scheduled to premiere on 19 December 2025.
