US B-1B Lancer strategic bombers drop bombs for the first time during an exercise in Latvia

The US Air Force's B-1B Lancer strategic bombers took part in a small exercise in Latvia last week. This was reported by the US Embassy.

Here's What We Know

The event marked the first time the supersonic aircraft dropped bombs at Adazi base. A statement from the US embassy said the exercise was an opportunity to strengthen relations with NATO allies.

The US Air Force has redeployed four strategic aircraft from the 7th Bomber Wing to Europe. Two of the bombers arrived in the region on May 23 and two more arrived on May 25. The B-1B Lancer is based in the UK at the Royal Air Force base Fairford.

The supersonic aircraft departed from Dyess, Texas. The flight to Europe took 12 hours. It is worth noting that the B-1B Lancer was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 fighter in the Baltic Sea area.
