Norway to transfer additional batch of NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine

Norway, following the USA, has announced a new package of military aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

The new aid package includes additional surface-to-air missile systems NASAMS in the amount of $30 000 00. Part of the equipment Norway is going to transfer in the near future from its stocks, and the other part will be produced by Kongsberg Defence and Raytheon. The number of SAMs to be sent to Ukraine has not been disclosed yet. It is only known that Norway has ordered 8 launchers and 4 control points. In addition, in a statement of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, it was specified that the cost of the planned transfer of equipment from the reserves of the armed forces is equivalent to the cost of the ordered equipment.

Flashback

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destroying manoeuvring targets at low and medium altitudes. The complex was developed in the early 90s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence with the participation of the American Raytheon. The SAM system entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. The AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 kilometres and a maximum altitude of 20 kilometres.
