The Game Band announced the closure of the Blaseball simulator

Developer The Game Band has announced the closure of the horror simulator Blaseball. The company is laying off the game's development team and will provide them with support, including extended health insurance and a dedicated official to help them find new jobs.

Blaseball was a great example of procedural storytelling. Players had the opportunity to bet on games to earn points throughout the week, where random Dungeons & Dragons-style clashes could tear the games and reality itself apart. At the end of each week, the Blaseball community could use their points to vote on new game rules, and just like in a real D&D game, anything could happen. At least, that's what the project's excellent description suggests.

Blaseball has developed an incredibly loyal online fandom that has even set up a gift shop full of fan-designed clothing, Blaseball cards, mugs, and more, with all profits donated to charity. The store will be open until 30 June 2023, after which it will also be closed.
