After 2 years of waiting: introduced "unsinkable" flagship Huawei Mate 50 Pro with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G chip and satellite connectivity for $980

Today Huawei unveiled its new flagship Mate 50 lineup, which was an important event for the Chinese manufacturer and its fans. The fact is that the Mate 40 lineup debuted in 2020, and last year the series was not continued. There were even rumors that the Mate flagships should be said goodbye. But here we have the new Huawei Mate 50, and four models at once: Mate 50E, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design. For now, let's talk about the most interesting - the top ones.

Details

Huawei Mate 50 Pro has a 6.74-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution of 2612×1212 pixels and refresh rate up to 120 Hz. There's a built-in fingerprint scanner and sophisticated 3D facial recognition sensors located in the notch. But much more interesting is the improved IP68 water resistance - according to the manufacturer, the phone can withstand submersion under water to a depth of 6 meters.

Inside there is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, but without 5G support. The highlight of the smartphone is satellite communication using the Chinese network Beidou. It allows you to make calls and send messages when ordinary mobile communication is not available. The gadget works under the Harmony OS 3.0 operating system.

The camera is the hallmark of Huawei flagships, and the Mate 50 Pro can be called a worthy contender for the title of leader in the DxOMark rating. For selfies, there is a 13 MP front-facing camera with 3D depth sensor. The main camera combines a 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensor with optical stabilization, 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 64 MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS support. It claims to support variable apertures from f/1.4 to f/4.0, laser autofocus, 200x superzoom and Huawei's XMAGE image processing technology.

Inside there is a 4,700mAh battery with 66W fast charging, 50W wireless charging and reverse (reverse) charging.

Huawei Mate 50 RS Porsche Design is special version of the flagship. Basically, the smartphone has the same specifications, but it differs in a premium design, more RAM and slightly modified cameras. For example, the periscope has been replaced by a 48-megapixel telemacro camera with 35x magnification and OIS support.

Here's What It Costs

The price is as follows:

  • Huawei Mate 50 Pro 8/256GB - $980
  • Huawei Mate 50 Pro 8/512GB - $1120
  • Huawei Mate 50 RS Porsche Design 12/512 GB - $1870

In China, sales will start at the end of September. Nothing is yet known about the global launch.
