Ukrainian divers have brought to the surface a Russian T-72 tank that had lain at the bottom of a river for more than a year

The Ukrainian Armed Forces may soon receive a new trophy tank. But first, the combat vehicle needs to be repaired.

Here's What We Know

The Russian T-72 tank spent more than a year at the bottom of the Desna River in Chernihiv region. The combat vehicle sank as a result of an unsuccessful attempt to cross the river near the village of Shestovitsa in northern Ukraine.

The T-72 was raised to the surface thanks to the joint work of sapper divers and specialists from the diving and rescue units of the State Special Transport Service. They were also assisted by servicemen of the operational command "North".

According to external signs, the trophy specimen has no significant damage. It is expected that after restoration the Russian tank will join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
