RTX received $175 million to overhaul the high-frequency radar for the B-2 Spirit nuclear bomber

RTX (formerly Raytheon) has been awarded a contract to improve the radar capabilities of B-2 Spirit nuclear bombers. The funding was announced on the official website of the US Department of Defence.

Here's What We Know

The deal is valued at $175 million. Work on the contract will take place at RTX's El Segundo, California facility after the company was selected by the US Air Force Sustainment Center as a contractor.

The B-2 Advanced High-Frequency Radar is designed to detect and track targets at long ranges. It provides the U.S. Air Force with situational awareness and enables it to operate in challenging environments.

The US Air Force has 20 B-2 Spirit nuclear bombers in service, two of which are under repair. The home of strategic aviation aircraft is US Air Force Base Whiteman, Missouri.
