Google Gemini will avoid talking about elections in India

Google has announced that its artificial intelligence chatbot, known as Google Gemini, will not be answering questions about the upcoming national elections in India.

Here's What We Know

A Google spokesperson stressed that this decision fits into the general context of restrictions that the company already announced in December last year to prepare for global elections in the US and EU. Restrictions in the US are already in place, and users who asked Gemini about the 2024 presidential election received a response. The chatbot wrote to encourage users to try using a Google search query.

While Google is adopting a similar approach, other chatbots, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, continue to provide election-related information.

It is also worth noting that OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, announced its strategies to combat election-related disinformation in January this year.

Shortly after the incident with Gemini's diversity filters, which caused outrage online, the company has been working to resolve the issues and maintain restrictions on the creation of people as chatbots. Currently, users who ask Gemini for images of people and receive a response that the AI cannot create this image.
