Meta stops supporting CrowdTangle

CrowdTangle, which was a popular platform for analysing content on Facebook and Instagram, will close on 14 August.

Here's What We Know

After Meta (formerly known as Facebook) acquired CrowdTangle in 2016, it ceased to be an active platform that was growing and attracting new users. CrowdTangle was used as a tool by Meta to internally monitor activity on its own platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. The tool was not an active service for the general public, but was used by the Meta team to analyse data and monitor user activity.

Meta is now planning to replace CrowdTangle with a tool called Meta Content Library. However, only academics and non-profit researchers will have access to the new library. This has led to criticism of the social network, as commercial news organisations will not be able to use the platform.
