The end of 2023 was not a happy one for Bungie, the creators of Destiny 2. There were layoffs in the studio, and players are worried about what will happen to the studio's upcoming service game Marathon?

Here's What We Know

IGN reported that Bungie is in the process of changing the creative leadership of Marathon. Christopher Barrett even left the position of the game director. He was replaced by the former Valorant game director Joe Ziegler. Joe confirmed this information on Twitter and said that he has been working with Bungie for 9 months.

Under Ziegler's leadership, the direction of the game has changed slightly. The studio has abandoned custom characters in favour of prescribed characters that can be chosen.

At the same time, the developers fear a new wave of layoffs, as Bungie's expenses do not match its income. The only way to save the situation is if The Final Shape expansion pack for Destiny 2 does not become extremely successful.

There are also growing expectations inside the company that the company's management will leave in the summer of 2026, when Sony will pay the last money for the acquisition of Bungie in 2022, and then it will be necessary to figure out who will be able to lead the support of all the studio's projects.
