Intel to spend $100 billion to build chip manufacturing plants in the US

Intel, the world's leading chipmaker, has announced an ambitious plan to invest $100 billion in new chip manufacturing plants in the United States.

Here's What We Know

Immediately after the White House announced a USD 19.5 billion investment under the CHIPS Act initiative, Intel unveiled its ambitious plan for the future of chip manufacturing in the US. Intel's CEO stressed that these investments are aimed at turning the US into a global leader in the production of artificial intelligence chips. The plant, which is to be built near Columbus, Ohio, promises to be the largest in the world and will start producing chips by 2027.

The majority of the investment will be spent on the construction of new facilities, as well as on the purchase of advanced chip manufacturing equipment. Although Intel has set ambitious goals, analysts warn that competition in the market remains fierce, particularly from players such as TSMC.

Restoring the US position in the global microelectronics market is defined as a long-term goal, and the company is counting on government support and further investment to ensure the industry's stable growth.
