Meta will give third-party companies access to Horizon OS and work with Microsoft to release a limited edition Xbox-style Quest 3 VR headset

There have long been rumours and speculations on the web that Microsoft is planning to release its own VR headset under the Xbox brand.

So far this information has not been confirmed, but the American corporation has decided to enter the market of virtual reality devices in a different way.

Here's What We Know

Meta has announced that it will give third-party companies access to the Horizon OS, on which the Quest series headsets run.

The outcome of this co-operation will be the release of VR devices from Lenovo and Asus, but nothing is known about them yet. But Meta said that together with Microsoft will release a limited version of VR-headset Quest 3 in the style of Xbox.

It will come with an Xbox controller and access to the Game Pass service catalogue, which, as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, "will allow you to immediately start playing games on a huge [virtual] screen wherever you are."

No release date for the Quest 3-Xbox headset has yet been announced.

As a reminder, back in December 2023, a A beta version of the Xbox Cloud Gaming service is now available on Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro headsets became available on the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro virtual and mixed reality headsets, allowing games not originally designed for VR to run on them.
