Reuters: Tencent is working on a conditionally free mobile version of Elden Ring

While Elden Ring fans are waiting for official news from FromSoftware about the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on, unexpected information has appeared online, which also concerns the best game of 2022.

Here's What We Know

Reuters news agency, citing three sources at once, reported that the Chinese corporation Tencent, which owns 16% of FromSoftware, is working on a mobile version of Elden Ring. Especially for this project, Tencent has acquired licence rights to use the Elden Ring brand.

According to the published information, it is planned that it will be a conditionally free mobile game with a large number of microtransactions and monetisation method similar to the super-popular Genshin Impact.

Needless to say, fans of the single-player, complex and multifaceted Elden Ring are unlikely to enjoy constantly spending money on in-game purchases and other unpleasant elements that accompany free-to-play games.

So far, neither Tencent, FromSoftware nor Bandai Namco have commented on Reuters' request for comment.
