NIntendo CEO Shigeru Miyamoto has no plans to retire yet

There are probably not many people in the gaming industry who have as much weight and influence on the industry as Shigeru Miyamoto, who is responsible for such legendary franchises as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Donkey King Kong and Pikmin and despite his age (he is 71), he continues to play an important role as the head of Nintendo.

Here's What We Know

Despite being much less involved in actual game development than he used to be, Miyamoto is still actively running the company and has no plans to retire anytime soon, as he told The Guardian in a recent interview. Instead, he is thinking about "the day he falls", but emphasises that it is important for him to pass on his experience and knowledge to the younger generation:

"More so than retiring, I’m thinking about the day I fall over. In this day and age you have to think about things in a five-year timespan, so I do think about who I can pass things on to, in case something does happen."

He also expressed his appreciation for the energy he perceived from the projects around him and shared his impression that the creation he worked on became part of the wider experience of the gaming community.
