HIMARS guided GMLRS missiles hit two Russian 2S9 "Nona-S" self-propelled mortar systems

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have hit two Russian 2S9 Nona-S self-propelled mortars. The equipment was detected and hit in Donetsk region.

Here's What We Know

Two mortar systems were found with the help of a reconnaissance drone. This is reported by the SHADOW unit. Then the complex M142 HIMARS struck with two guided missiles GMLRS.

As a result of the two hits, one 2S9 Nona-S mortar system was completely destroyed and the other was rendered inoperable, possibly permanently. Russian servicemen attempted to flee after the first hit, but were unsuccessful.

The 2S9 system is equipped with a 120mm cannon. The BMD-1 amphibious assault vehicle is used as a chassis. The self-propelled launcher can hit armoured vehicles using 3BK19 shaped charge ammunition.

"Nona-S" is capable of firing at a range of up to 25 kilometres. As such, it has no chance against the US M142 HIMARS missile system. Conventional GMLRS guided missiles can destroy enemy targets within a range of 80 kilometres.
