This week Lockheed Martin officially announced the delivery of the first batch of Precision Strike Missiles to the US Army. As it became known, the military service received only four missiles.

Here's What We Know

This is reported by the publication Janes, which spoke to Darrell Ames, speaker of the programme management for missiles and space at Lockheed Martin. The US company has previously said it plans to hand over three missiles to the US Army by the end of this year.

PrSM is a replacement for the ATACMS tactical ballistic missile with a launch range of up to 300 kilometres. The new weapon will be able to use highly mobile artillery rocket systems M142 HIMARS and multiple rocket launchers M270 MLRS in A2 modification.

The current version of the PrSM is capable of engaging targets within a radius of 500 kilometres. In the future, the launch range will be extended to 100 km. The launcher container in HIMARS holds two missiles at once, not one, as in the case of ATACMS.
