Rumor: Apple will rename the Apple Watch Series 9 smartwatch to Apple Watch X in honor of the anniversary

Apple introduced three smartwatches in 2022: the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2 and the rugged Apple Watch Ultra. Logically, in 2023, it will be the turn of the Apple Watch Series 9. But according to rumors, the manufacturer has decided to rename the future new product.

Details

French publication iPhoneSoft, citing an unnamed source at Luxshare, Apple's display partner and supplier, reports that Apple has decided to rename the Apple Watch Series 9 to the Apple Watch X to mark the range's 10th anniversary.

The publication also notes that the gadget will run on the watchOS 10 operating system.

By the way, there was a similar story in 2017, when in honor of the anniversary of the smartphones Apple introduced the iPhone X instead of the iPhone 9, simply skipping the nine.

But then the situation was understandable and logical, but the story with the Apple Watch is not so. The first smartwatch model was introduced in September 2014 and went on sale in 2015. In other words, the series should celebrate its anniversary at least in 2024, not this year. At the same time, there was no information that Apple would miss the release of the new watch in 2023. So for now, this information is best treated with doubt.
