Germany has agreed to sell Ukraine 100 modern self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000 - the contract worth €1.7 billion

The German federal government has approved the sale of 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine.

What we know

The German publication Der Spiegel reports about this. For the first time information about purchase of 100 howitzers from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann appeared in the middle of spring. And now on July 13 the German Ministry of Economics issued the license for manufacture of Panzerhaubitze 2000 production.

The issue of license for manufacture and sale of self-propelled artillery systems may be an evidence of the change of course of the German government. Germany can no longer transfer weapons from its own stockpiles, and therefore the authorities gave the go-ahead for direct contracts between the manufacturer and Ukraine. The Armed Forces previously received MATADOR grenade launchers under the same scheme, and the delivery of IRIS-T air defense systems is scheduled for the end of the year.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann claims that production will begin soon, and the conditions have already been agreed with the Ukrainian side. The contract amount is €1.7 billion for one hundred Panzerhaubitze 2000 units. There is no official information about the timing of the start of deliveries, but it is known that production will be delayed for several years.
