None of the 18 HIMARS missile systems in Ukraine have been destroyed - the Armed Forces store HIMARS in Soviet bunkers that can withstand a nuclear strike

This week, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence published a video on the M142 HIMARS. The ministry stated that none of the highly mobile artillery systems were destroyed.

Here's What We Know

A member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who calls himself "Captain HIMARS", has mocked Russian defence ministry claims that the HIMARS were destroyed. In January 2023, the Russian defence ministry reported the elimination of 27 US missile systems.

The US has announced the transfer of 38 HIMARS units to Ukraine. However, here there is one nuance: now Ukraine received only 18 missile systems from the US stockpile, the remaining 20 HIMARS will be purchased as part of the USAI initiative and there is no information about the timing of deliveries yet. The US Department of Defence does not acknowledge Russian reports of the destruction of the HIMARS.

In the video, a "HIMARS captain" says the missile systems are stored in bunkers that were built during Soviet times. The defences can withstand a nuclear strike.
