Germany will spend €560 million to buy RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles

The Budget Committee of the Bundestag gave the green light to purchase missiles for the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile ship-based air defense systems.

Here's What We Know

The German Navy uses RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles in the Block 2B modification. The Bundestag has allocated €560 million for the purchase of 600 missiles. American company General Dynamics and German Diehl Defense are engaged in their production. Deliveries will begin in 2024 and will last until 2029. The missiles are used by several Braunschweig-class frigates and corvettes.

The funds may come from a special fund for €100 billion, which was created by the German government after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The money will be invested in strengthening the defense capabilities of Germany and the European Union. In particular, the fund may finance the creation of a single European air defense system.
