Lockheed Martin announced that it has been awarded a new contract to produce the M142 HIMARS high-mobility artillery rocket system. The agreement will expand the US Army's launcher fleet and fulfill orders for international partners.

Here's What We Know

The contract is worth $615.9 million. Production of the M142 HIMARS is set at Lockheed Martin's plant in Camden, Arkansas. The number of launchers is not specified. The contract also includes production of additional equipment. Work is due to be completed by 30 May 2026.

The company is working closely with customers and suppliers to ramp up production capacity and meet the need for launchers that have been battle-tested. This was stated by Precision Fires Vice President Jay Price. Lockheed Martin is on track to increase production capacity, he said.

HIMARS can now use high-precision guided missiles GMLRS and ballistic missiles ATACMS with maximum launch ranges of 80 km and 300 km respectively. Lockheed Martin, meanwhile, is working on the ER-GMLRS and PrSM. The new missiles will be able to hit targets at ranges of 150 km and 500 km respectively. Moreover, the range of PrSM will be increased to 1000 km in the future.
