The A-10 Thunderbolt II has arrived in South America for the first time ever - the iconic attack aircraft are taking part in a major exercise Resolute Sentinel 23

The U.S. Air Force is conducting one of the largest exercises in South America under the direction of U.S. Southern Command. A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft have been sent to the region to participate in the event.

Here's What We Know

The Resolute Sentinel 23 exercise involves approximately 1,000 Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, Army and Coast Guard personnel. Eight partner nations are also involved in the event: Peru, Brazil, Colombia, United Kingdom, Ecuador, Panama, Chile, and Uruguay.

For the A-10 Thunderbolt II, the visit was historic. The aircraft, which had proven itself many decades ago, had never before been to South America. On 12 July, the aircraft was refuelled with a Lockheed HC-130 as part of an exercise.

The U.S. Air Force sent A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft to South Korea, which are assigned to the 476th Fighter Group. They are stationed at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.
