Xiaomi has filed with several offices at once - USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) and EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) - a patent for an "electronic device for adjusting the audio output mode."

How it works

Basically, the documentation describes a mechanical shutter installed over the speakers. Its main task is to improve the sound quality during telephone calls.

The fact is that during a normal conversation on the phone, a low-frequency sound is preferable, which is extremely difficult to achieve with an open speaker grill. But if you close it with a special curtain, sound waves will be directed towards the screen. When the smartphone is playing music or providing a hands-free conversation, there is no need to close the grille.

Therefore, the curtain will open and close automatically depending on the task at hand. It can also be adjusted manually.

But do not forget that so far this is just a patent, and it is not known whether Xiaomi is realizing this idea.
