An underground mining farm in Odessa stole electricity from the state for “millions of hryvnias”
The Security Service of Ukraine announced the liquidation of an underground mining center in Odessa. The farm illegally mined cryptocurrency using electricity in industrial volumes.
According to representatives of the SBU, the operation of the mining center could cause emergencies in the transport sector. Now an examination is being carried out to assess the damage to the state. The press service of the SBU reported about “millions of hryvnias”.
A warehouse rented in Odessa was equipped as a farm. During searches of the premises, law enforcement agencies seized more than 100 pieces of computer equipment and devices for mining digital currencies, as well as communications equipment and documents confirming the fact of illegal activity.
Activities to expose and document the offense were carried out by employees of the cyber unit and investigators of the SBU in the Odessa region under the procedural leadership of the Odessa regional prosecutor's office. According to the investigation, two residents of Odessa were involved in the creation of the farm. They used part of the income to buy foreign currency with subsequent withdrawal abroad through third parties.
