Xiaomi broke three 2019 smartphones by its MIUI 12 update, and closed support after that - no more updates in the global market

Xiaomi has managed to mess up the final software update for three smartphones in the global market.

What we know

The problem concerns Xiaomi Mi 9T, its Asian version Redmi K20 (not Chinese) and Redmi K20 Pro (also not for China). The first two models are equipped with a Snapdragon 730 chip, the third carries the top-end Snapdragon 855 platform at the time of the announcement.

All three smartphones were released in 2019. As it turned out, the trinity will continue to work on the basis of the MIUI 12 firmware with the Android 11 operating system. And everything would be fine, but the final update, released at the end of 2021, became very problematic.

Users report delays during startup and when closing apps. There are pop-up freezes and message bubble issues. They also note a drop in performance and crashes in games, incorrect operation of the gesture control system and the disabling of Widevine L1 certification (you cannot watch HD content on Netflix and other services).

Note that Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in China are running MIUI 12.5 firmware. Updated to the new software version and Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. But the owners of Redmi K20 / K20 Pro outside China and Xiaomi Mi 9T seem to have to put up with problems.
