Canalys: Apple overtakes Samsung to become the global smartphone market leader in Q4 2021. Thanks for that iPhone 13
Canalys analysts summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2021 and identified the world market leader in smartphone sales.
New leader
So, according to the results of the quarter, Apple rose to the first place from a market share of 22%. Apple usually takes second place, but here it managed to push its main competitor, Samsung, off the podium.
And this is not surprising: in the fourth quarter, the new iPhone 13 line went on sale, which contributed to the growth of Apple's share. By the way, in the fourth quarter of 2020, the "apple" company also occupied a leading position, this time thanks to the iPhone 12 family.
Samsung breathes down Apple's back with a 20% market share. The third place, according to tradition, is occupied by Xiaomi with 12%. OPPO and Vivo close the top five with 9% and 8% respectively.
“Apple is back at the top of the smartphone market after three quarters thanks to the outstanding performance of the iPhone 13,” said Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia. “Apple has demonstrated unparalleled iPhone performance in mainland China, and aggressive pricing for flagship devices has kept the offering attractive. Apple's supply chain is starting to recover, but the company was still forced to cut production in the fourth quarter due to shortages of key components and could not produce enough iPhones to meet demand.”
