Playing Dark Souls 3 online is dangerous, hackers have found a way to get access to your computer using the game
According to a Dexerto report, a dangerous remote code execution exploit (RCE) found in Dark Souls 3 could allow an attacker to take control of your computer. The vulnerability only affects online PC users and could potentially affect Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 and the upcoming Elden Ring.
A new security vulnerability in Dark Souls 3, described by users on Twitter and Reddit. The vulnerability works at the level of full-fledged malware and can pose a serious risk to anyone who plays the game online.
The exploit was seen in action during a player's online stream The__Grim__Sleeper's on the Twitch platform. At the end of the stream (1:20:22), the game crashes, and a robotic voice suddenly starts criticizing his gameplay. The streamer then reports that Microsoft PowerShell opened by itself, which is a sign that the hacker used the program to run a script that activated the text-to-speech feature.
This is not the first time such problems have arisen in the multiplayer of Dark Souls 3. In 2016, hackers corrupted player saves. This situation is of concern with the forthcoming release of FromSoft's Dark Souls successor Elden Ring. Users speculate that this Dark Souls 3 critical vulnerability may be present in Elden Ring if the game uses the same netcode. However, this is not yet known.
The last thing anyone wants to see is that one of the biggest and most anticipated games of 2022 will be delayed because it gives hackers an opportunity to control and potentially destroy players' computers.
