The NPD Group has released its latest report showing which games, consoles and accessories sold best in January 2022 in the US.

The PS5 was the best-selling in January 2022 both in terms of units and revenue. The Xbox Series family of systems came in second. Total console spending rose 22% to $390 million. It was the most profitable January since 2009, when the profit was $447 million.

In terms of game sales, Pokemon Legends: Arceus was the top seller in January 2022. Call of Duty: Vanguard came in second, followed by Monster Hunter Rise, Madden NFL 22, and God of War. The NPD noted that Monster Hunter Rise and God of War climbed the charts thanks to the launch on Steam.

Meanwhile, accessory sales fell 15% year-over-year to $185 million. The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller was January's best seller in the accessories category.

Overall – for hardware, games and accessories – U.S. spending fell 2% in January 2022 to $4.7 billion. Although console sales rose, it was not enough to make up for falling spending on games and accessories.
