Google has unexpectedly announced a new operating system, Chrome OS Flex.

What is known

Chrome OS Flex is a cloud system, which is designed for older PCs and Macs. The OS installs in minutes and can run on 13-year-old devices, the company says.

Chrome OS Flex is based on Chrome OS. The systems have the same interface and even a common code base. As far as Chrome OS Flex features are concerned, they will depend on the hardware. For example, not all computers will receive Google Assistant support and the ability to sync with Android smartphones.

Google plans to offer the new version of the system to schools and businesses.
