Nintendo has long wanted to close the Wii U eShop
The Nintendo Wii U console will lose its digital store in a year. According to Nintendo Life report, An anonymous employee of Nintendo of America said that Nintendo wanted to close the Wii U eShop for several years, but was concerned about class action lawsuits if it were done within ten years after the system was launched. The company did not respond directly to Nintendo Life's request for comment.
"Internally, she (Nintedno) has been waiting for this day since 2014 based on sales", - the source reported. "Nintendo looks at the first two years as an indicator of when to start the console's funeral."
Of course, it is highly unlikely that Nintendo would have closed the store then, as it was three years before the Switch in 2014, and a few years later we received Wii U exclusives. However, the gap between the Wii U and the Switch was one of the smallest in Nintendo's history. The GameCube, which was a disappointment in itself for Nintendo, lasted five years before the Wii. The Wii U lasted just over four, and it was one of Nintendo's biggest setbacks. In contrast, The Nintendo Switch is now Nintendo's best-selling home console in history.
Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops will be closed until March 2023. If you need to buy games so far, then it's time to do it.
