"I fought valiantly for a cigar, but they said no" - Colin Farrell banned from smoking in "Batman"

Colin Farrell, while discussing his role as iconic villain Penguin in Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman film, said the studio wouldn't let him smoke on camera.

Farrell talked about his Penguin look in a recent interview, and added that the studio didn't even let him smoke. Farrell said studios are incredibly wary of showing cigarettes on screen when it comes to superhero movies.

“I fought valiantly for a cigar, I even asked at one stage: “Can I not light it?”, And they said no.”

John Turturro, who will play Carmine Falcone, added that he would like to see Colin the Penguin get the iconic mouthpiece. Farrell goes on to say, "HBO will give me the green light on this," referring to a possible Penguin spin-off. The actor recently talked about how his version draws inspiration from John Cazale's The Godfather and Fredo Corleone.

The Batman will premiere in theaters on March 3, 2022.
