Gourmet: the new Apple Watch can support satellite communications
Last year, there were rumors that the iPhone 13 line of smartphones will receive satellite support. This never happened, but the iPhone 14 may have such a feature. According to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch smartwatch may also have this feature.
What to expect?
Satellite communication will be needed by gadget owners in emergencies or to send short texts to emergency contacts when they are out of cellular coverage.
According to Gurman, the Apple Watch may receive such a feature this or next year:
“Recently, there have been signs that Apple and its apparent satellite partner Globalstar Inc. may come close to launching such a feature. In February, Globalstar said it had reached an agreement to purchase 17 new satellites to help provide "continuous satellite service" to a "potential" - and unnamed - client that paid it hundreds of millions of dollars. As rumors indicate that Apple could target three new Apple Watches this year - a regular model, a new SE, and an all-new watch designed for extreme sports - it would make sense if at least the regular model and the rugged model Apple Watch got this feature."
True, even if this feature is launched this year, it will most likely be limited to key markets.
