Elden Ring patch 1.04. 1 fixes Malenia co-op bug, among other changes

Elden Ring Developer FromSoftware released a patch to the game Wednesday. The update addresses an unintended modification to Malenia, Blade of Miquella’s notoriously hard boss. Malenia has never experienced defeat. (Well, not never.) She has lost her self-healing abilities, so she must hit people with her sword in order to recover health.

Players discovered earlier this month that patch 1. 04 for Elden Ring introduced a new bug for Malenia that affected players who had been summoned to aid others in co-op play. If Malenia attacked a summoned player, regardless of whether she made contact with them, she’d restore her own health. This was not FromSoftware’s intent. It was also not how Malenia behaved in past versions.

The rest of Wednesday’s update (version 1.04. 1, officially) addresses the following issues, as noted in Bandai Namco’s patch notes below.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug in which the effect duration of the Cerulean Hidden Tear was revised downward
  • Fixed a bug with Malenia, Blade of Miquella in which her HP was not healed correctly in the online multiplayer environment
  • Fixed a bug that caused some bosses to die at unintended times
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the boss “Elden Beast” from working properly under certain circumstances
  • Fixed some texts
