Company Synchron launched the world's first clinical trial of a commercial brain-computer interface system called Stentrode.
The development is designed to facilitate the interaction of people with disabilities with digital devices. The preliminary phase is funded by the National Institutes of Health and will evaluate safety Stentrode. The New York-based company also noted that at this stage, it will evaluate how effectively the chip helps patients control digital devices hands-free.
After implantation Stentrode travels to the brain through the blood vessels. The chip then converts brain activity into signals for sending text messages, mail, and other actions using an external device.
