A new initiative by the Cupertino manufacturer enables smartphone users to Apple independently buy original components and change them using special tools. How it all works, tested by the team Mac Rumors.

The experiment involved videographer Dan Barber, who has no experience in disassembling smartphones, and his model iPhone 12 mini. The challenge is to replace the battery. The purpose of the experiment is to show the average user who wants to use the new program Apple.

Barber encountered inconvenience immediately. The weight of the repair kit was over 35 kg. It included two boxes, which, after repair, must be sent back to the company Apple. Otherwise, you will have to pay compensation in the amount of $1 300. Kit includes battery press, torque wrench, display removal/installation tools and other equipment.

The repair kit costs $50 and the battery costs $70. Wherein Apple compensates about $24. Thus, self-replacement of the battery costs almost $96, while the cost of the service is Apple is only $70. Of course, users can purchase only the necessary spare part, but without special equipment, a complete replacement will not work. In addition, Barber twice went to the store to buy tools that were needed according to the instructions, but not in the kit.

Ultimate self-repair iPhone 12 mini turned out to be not only difficult, but also not profitable in terms of monetary costs.
