HBO Max has released a behind-the-scenes video «Batman», which shows how visual effects artists created Gotham City using new technologies with LED screens.

HBO Max showed a behind-the-scenes video detailing the use of LED screens to create Gotham City. Director Matt Reeves explains that instead of relying on computer graphics and a green screen for most scenes, he used the latest technological advances to have a realistic image.

Producer Dylan Clark sees Gotham as a character in the film, and to fully understand the city while avoiding bad visual effects, the film crew used an LED volume to depict Gotham during filming. This allowed you to create more realistic scenes, compared to the green screen.

LED volume - is a type of studio production that uses LED panels to display backgrounds. This allows you to get realistic real-time lighting from displays instead of visual effects artists trying to combine lighting and shadows using green and blue screen techniques. Team «Batman» used technology to update the background on the fly with pictures Ґotema, manipulating the scene when necessary to get the perfect shot. Visual effects manager Dan Lemmon adds: “One of the great benefits of using this technology is that you can essentially freeze time. You can have a sunset and you can have that sunset for as long as you need. ”

Officially announced sequel to "Batman" will allow Reeves and his visual effects team to re-expand the scope of the set.
