A couple of days ago, 9to5Mac reported that WhatsApp had finally released the ability to react to a message. Alongside this feature, the company is also bringing up to 512 people to a group and increasing the size limit of a file from 100MB to 2GB.

According to WhatsApp in a blog post, “one of the top requests we’ve consistently received is the option to add more people to a chat, so now we’re slowly rolling out the ability to add up to 512 people to a group.”

The company emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and private environment. Brazilian users will need to wait for the feature to roll out worldwide. This is what’s interesting about it. According to the company :

” Based solely upon our long-term strategy in Brazil, this functionality will not be implemented until it has been tested in other markets .”

This is part of the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court’s effort to stop the spread of false news and misinformation via groups, as happens in Telegram.

In addition, WhatsApp users can now start sending files within the app up to 2GB in size at a time, protected by end-to-end encryption. The company explains:

“This is an increase from the previous limit of 100MB and we think will be helpful for collaboration among small businesses and school groups. For larger files, we recommend WiFi. We will display a counter during uploading and downloading so you can see how long it takes .”
