Before we had time to move away from the news about the production of toilet paper from stones, and new information about the vaunted Russian import substitution is on the way. Moreover, she is being trolled not only in Ukraine, but also in the US Senate.

What's the reason?

Sanctions imposed by America at the end of February are forcing the Russian Federation to use computer chips from dishwashers and refrigerators in some military equipment.

“We have reports from Ukrainians that when they find Russian military equipment, it is filled with semiconductors that they took out of dishwashers and refrigerators,” U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said at a Senate hearing.

However, she referred to Ukrainian officials who told the Secretary of State that when they opened up captured Russian tanks, they found parts of refrigerators and commercial and industrial equipment that appeared to replace other unavailable components.

According to Raimondo, technology exports from the United States to Russia have fallen by almost 70% since the imposition of sanctions. Three dozen other countries have adopted similar export bans that also apply to Belarus. At the same time, the number of shipments from the United States to Russia, including goods subject to the new rules - semiconductors, telecommunications equipment, lasers, avionics and marine technology - decreased by 85%.

Computer chips, also known as semiconductors, are the brains that drive the most advanced electronics, from home appliances to fighter jets. Russia produces very few of its own chips, it does not have the necessary technical process and is not expected in the near future.

Gina Raimondo also pointed to recent reports that two Russian tank manufacturers were forced to halt production due to component shortages.
