Konami had its best year thanks to games you've never heard of
Konami announced that its last fiscal year (April 2021 - March 2022) was the most profitable in the company's history over a long distance. The Japanese publisher's operating profit was 74.4 billion Japanese yen, or about $ 577 million, and net income was 54.8 billion yen, or 425 million US dollars.
Despite the opinion that Konami no longer makes normal games, but only completely "such-and-such" projects, the financial results say otherwise. However, it is true that most of the company's successes are not in Europe or the West.
The company's latest big hit is the Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, which was released on Steam in January. Since then, the game has gathered more than 30 million players and will undoubtedly be popular for many years to come. Konami also had significant profits from Momtaro Detetsu, which was only available on the Switch in Japan and sold over 3.5 million copies.
Another notable element of these financial results is the Metal Gear series, which sold 58.3 million units, making it the second largest sale after Winning Eleven / eFotball.
