On March 8, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the American corporation temporarily closed all restaurants in Russia and announced the suspension of work on the market. McDonald’s has now said that owning a business in the aggressor country is unviable and does not meet the company's values.

McDonald’s will sell all the restaurants to a Russian buyer. However, they will not have a name, logo or McDonald’s menu. Prior to the closing of the agreement, the company intends to pay salaries to staff, as well as provide employment for the new owner.
