IKEA unveils new smart home hub DIRIGERA with Matter support
IKEA is not only known for its furniture and accessories, but also for its smart home devices. IKEA has launched a number of smart home products over the last eight years, including blinds, lights, and more which are powered by its HomeKit-compatible TRÅDFRI gateway supporting Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Now the company has announced that it has an all-new smart home hub with Matter support, plus a redesigned “Home” app on the way.
Now IKEA has introduced a new generation of smart hubs, supported by Matter - a new smart home standard developed together by Google, Apple, Amazon, Samsung and a number of other companies. Matter should significantly simplify the lives of users, because they will be confident that their new smart devices are compatible with their smart home and will be able to quickly and easily connect them. Of course, once most manufacturers integrate Matter into their products. Matter is currently scheduled to launch in the fall of 2022.
New smart hub got the name DIRIGERA. IKEA says that connecting gadgets to the new DIRIGERA Matter smart hub will be "significantly easier" than the current TRÅDFRI hub. In addition, the company will redesign the Home application. It will make it more convenient and user-friendly so that more people can create their own smart home. The current application and the TRÅDFRI smart hub will continue to operate. DIRIGERA will be compatible with all available IKEA smart home devices. The company plans to release it in October this year.
