Elon Musk will refuse to buy Twitter if management does not provide real data on spam accounts
The purchase of the social network Twitter by Elon Musk may not take place. According to Reuters, the billionaire said that he could refuse to acquire Twitter if the company's management does not provide him with real data on the number of spam accounts and fake accounts. Data that Twitter has apparently refused to provide.
Musk's legal team sent a letter to Twitter stating that the administration of the service did not provide him with statistics about spam bots. At the same time, Musk has the right to receive this information in accordance with the purchase agreement. The letter said the company "actively opposes and violates his rights to information." Because of this, Musk may decide to "not make a deal" due to an alleged breach of contract.
On April 25, Twitter executives announced that Musk would acquire the company for $44 billion. According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, if the billionaire decides to terminate the agreement, he will have to pay a $1 billion fine to the company. If Twitter initiates the termination, Musk will be compensated. Elon Musk announced on May 13 that it was suspending its purchase of Twitter pending "information supporting estimates that spam accounts and fake accounts make up less than 5% of users" of the social network. Such an assessment was given in the company's report, published on May 2. According to the entrepreneur, there are currently more than 20% of fake accounts on the social network.
