Surface Duo 2 got a June update with Glance Bar and Slim Pen 2 improvements
Microsoft released a new OTA update for the Surface Duo 2 that includes numerous upgrades and new capabilities to the Microsoft foldable. The update is 736MB in size and bumps the device to version 2022.418.98. The Glance Bar is a thin strip of visible displays at the bottom that shows glanceable information such as time, date, and notifications. Notifications from third-party messaging applications will now be shown. Previously, only SMS, voicemail, and Microsoft Teams alerts were displayed on the Glance Bar.
The Slim Pen 2 gains more features, and its firmware upgrade will allow for automatic connection with the Surface Duo 2. When paired over Bluetooth, the Slim Pen 2 may be updated to version 5.133.139, at which time it will also be able to automatically connect with the Surface Duo when inking on either screen (no need to do this with a Surface PC).
New features include faster charging, haptic feedback is now available in the Camera app's settings, and Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) is now supported to manage device usage. The camera app gains " usability," which is a bit vague of a word, but it should either be quicker or operate better. The OG Surface Duo was also updated, but it only included “device stability” upgrades and version 2022.418.56.
