Solar powered EV Lightyear 0 is available for preorder
After six years of development, Dutch company Lightyear has completed the development of its solar-powered Lightyear One electric car. Today was the international premiere of the serial version of the car, which received the name Lightyear 0.
As noted in the company, thanks to proprietary technology, Lightyear 0 is equipped with five square meters of solar panels. It is noted that this technology can provide the car with an additional 70 km of range per day and up to 11,000 km per year. Charging for an hour with solar panels should increase range by 10 km. Recharging from a household outlet will give an additional 32 km per hour, and from a fast charging station - 520 km.
The 60 kWh battery provides 625 km of WLTP range. The company calculated that if you drive an average of 50 kilometers, then the car doesn't need to be charged for months.
The electric car can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 10 seconds, and the maximum speed is 160 km/h. There are five seats inside. The infotainment system is equipped with a 10.1-inch touch screen and uses the Android Automotive platform. The first deliveries are scheduled for autumn 2022. The price is 250 thousand euros.
