Mozillion has analyzed the rise in smartphone prices over the past decade and, based on that, has made several predictions about how much more smartphone prices will rise over the next ten years.

What's the price?

Even 5-6 years ago, the flagship price tag of $ 1000 was something unimaginable, but now it is already the norm. Apple's 2017 iPhone X was the first phone to retail for $999. Despite this cost, he was very popular. Soon, competitors, including Samsung, and even Chinese manufacturers, who prided themselves on low price tags, followed Apple's lead.

According to research by Mozillion, the cost of flagship iPhones has risen from $199 in 2012 for the iPhone 5 to $1,099 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, an increase of 452%. Surprisingly, Motorola and Huawei are next on the list. Thus, top Huawei devices increased in price by 221%. The price of high-end Motorola phones has risen from $299.99 in 2012 to $999.99 in 2022, making them more expensive by 233%.

Samsung is in fourth place with an increase of around 184% for its best phones with the highest specs. The price of premium Nokia phones has grown the least in the last decade - only 55%.

If this pace continues, by 2032 flagships will cost:

  • Apple - $6069
  • Motorola - $3333
  • Huawei - $3300
  • OnePlus - $2342
  • Sony - $2358

Although the report is interesting, it should not be taken as a definitive forecast. However, with the price of everything from food to fuel rising and resource scarcity afflicting the world, prices could very well rise significantly.
